3D Printing an enabler for Industry 4.0

3D Printing an enabler for Industry 4.0 3D Printing or Additive Manufacturing is referred as an important pillar of industry 4.0 Printing or Additive Manufacturing is of industry 4.0 refe rred as an important pillar. What is Industry 4.0? In the third industrial revolution electronic devices, information and technology, and automation concepts have been evolved. In industry 4.0 i.e. fourth industrial revolution all these concepts have been integrated into cyber physical systems. The below are some relevant technologies enabling industry 4.0. 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing The internet of things (IoT) The industrial internet of things (IIoT) Cyber-physical systems (CPS) Smart manufacture Smart factories Cloud computing Cognitive computing Artificial intelligence A friendly video about the introduction of Industry 4.0.

BINDER JETTING

BINDER JETTING Source: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BinderJetting.svg File:BinderJetting.svg - Wikimedia Commons Binder jetting is a popular 3D printing technique that is used to create parts using a powder bed and binder material. The raw material is in the form of powder, while the binder material is selectively deposited on the powder bed using a print head. The system is composed of two materials, the powder and the binder, which are used to create the final 3D printed part. To begin the process, a layer of powder material is spread over the build platform using a roller-assisted mechanism. The print head then selectively deposits the binder material onto the powder bed in the areas where the part is to be fabricated. As the binder material is applied to the powder bed, it solidifies and binds the powder particles together, creating a solid layer. Once the binder material has been deposited, the powder bed is indexed downward repeatedly to accommodate the next ...

3D Printing: A Game Changer in Manufacturing Industry

3D Printing: A Game Changer in Manufacturing Industry Due to the design freedom in 3D Printing, it can act as a game changer in design and fabrication tasks. WHAT IS 3D PRINTING? The process of 3D printing starts with the basic concept of computer aided designing (CAD), where the CAD model based on the desired geometry is created. After that CAD model is transferred to a slicer that can slice the 3D object into number of layers. After that each slice that has XY planner information built layer by layer. TRANFORMATIVE ROLE OF 3D PRINTING Initially 3D Printing technology was used for the rapid prototyping purpose, because the materials were low grade polymeric materials and tolerance was loose as well. With the progress in the 3D Printing technology, more functional and high performance materials such as thermosetting plastics, ceramics, composites and metals and alloys can be printed with very close tolerances. As as result now 3D printing or additive manufacturing can take the tr...
